Ch.8-Digital Sound-Nick Smith

That music file on your iTunes is a lot more complicated or deep than what you think. For instance a simple track in iTunes has already been converted over into the AAC format which stands for advanced audio coding since the iTunes boom I’m sure everybody has realized this has become the most popular, however some of you may be confused on why MP3 is not the most popular. MP3 is right up under AAC which is the MP4 format which by now MP3 is considered old technology. Many of you will be familiar with WMA format also. WMA format, which stands for windows media audio, is used by windows media player. The actual player is being dissolved due to the increasing popularity of iTunes. But, if you purchase a PC, windows media player automatically comes with the PC as the default player. All of them as with digital audio are compressed format. One thing I think is cool with digital audio today is speech synthesis which is where the computer and or machine can understand spoken words. Some examples of these would e like on-star or Ford Sync with speech synthesis. These are in cars which assist you with directions, and help you with setting in the car such finding music on your iPod. This is a really cool feature because it feels like you are interacting with the car I would know because I have the Ford Sync in my car. I’m pretty sure you all have encountered speech recognition because this feature is used in smartphones today. I know for in mines when you in the message app you can talk to the phone and it processes what you say and appears as if you typed out the message yourself.
